With the U7’s game rained of again with a waterlogged home pitch and the U10’s having an extended festive break the U8’s were the only Swans team to play away to the Highcliffe Hawks.
A very windy day coupled with a very sticky pitch this was not going to be an easy game agianst the Hawks who were roughly in the same part of the league as the Swans. Fielding a weaker side the Swans were soon into the game and were matching a strong Hawks team. Both teams were playing some good football both teams closing down play and passing the ball well.

Corey and Jack both having chances in this half but unable to put them in the back of the net. Jordan in goal having not alot to do for the first 10 mins with some good solid defending from Ryan and Jaya supported by Zac, Corey and Jack. Dexter up front on his own was having a good battle with the Hawks defence especially in set peices taking what he had been taught in training. Zac was putting in a good display in midfield chasing down the ball and covering all the pitch and although the Swans were getting as many shots at goal as the Hawks they just wouldn’t go in the back ofthe net.

Then 5mins from the end of the 1st half the Hawks put together some good passes catching out the Swans defence and scoring a good goal. The sore stayed 1-0 till half time Jordan making a couple of good saves and the Swans unlucky not to equalise.
In the 2nd half the game continued similar to the 1st half both teams unlucky not to score but the Swans were tiring on a very sticky and big pitch, the Hawks rolling on fresh subs the Swans unfortunate not to have that luxury.

This was turning into a good game both teams having numerous chances, Jack making a great run but running out of steam at the end and Corey having a similar go but putting the ball into the side netting, then Zac went on a great run with Dexter in support but Zac unlucky shooting just wide. The Hawks nearly broke through but Ryan put in a great tackle to thwart their advance. The Swans were looking good considering their lack of numbers but then cruely they got caught out 3mins from the end the Hawks catching then napping at the back, the Swans conceeding a weak goal. This seemed to knock the stuffing out of the Swans and although Corey had a couple of goes at goal the Hawks put together a nice move scoring their 3rd and just on the end of time their 4th. FT Hawks 4 Swans 0 MOM Ryan Coyne

The score didn’t really reflect the game both teams evenly matched the Swans unable to score, the Hawks finishing strongley but I think it would have been a different story had the Swans had a full team and a couple of the stronger players playing, but the boys played well passing and moving, closing the Hawks down and staring to put into practice what they are being taught on the training ground, well played boys.
