Under 8’s
The 8’s travelled to New Milton Fawcett Fields to take on the top team in the league Lymington & NM Robins. This was always going to be a hard game and game play was to play defensivly and try and hold Lymington but this would prove a hard task against the strongest team the young 8’s had played all season.
From KO the swans were on the back foot defending deep in their own half and it wasn’t long before Lymington had scored their 1st all be it a soft goal to conceed. Lymington soon added a 2nd but then a glimmer of hope when Jack linked with Corey, Jack continuing his run and slotting the ball home to pull a goal back. Corey, Jack and Zac put together some good moves but were unable to score past the Lymington keeper. The midfield was bolstered by new signing Jan Brown but with Corey and Jack pushing for another goal the Swans defence failed to close down their players conceeding another goal. Lymington were picking up the goal kicks and running the ball straight back at the Swans defence scoring another 2 goals before half time. HT Lymington 5 Swans 1
Having changed the team around pushing Corey into an attacking midfield role and by letting Jack take the goal kicks the Swans started this half stronger than the 1st, Corey having a couple of shots at goal but unable to score. Ryan and Jaya at the back were defending well but when Lymington ran at them they failed to close down the players and Lymington slotted home their 6th. Jordan now on for Yan was working well with Zac this half and Jack seemed to be all over the pitch, his best display for a couple of weeks but with the Swans pushing for another goal got caught out at the back again conceeding a 7th. Jack put a lovely ball through to Corey who ran at the lymington defence, neatly looping the ball over their heads to Zac who couldn’t quite get enough on it to finish it off, had it gone in this would have been a great goal. Lymington not happy with the 7 goals they already had yet again caught the Swans out at the back the Swans failing again to close down and clear the ball and conceeding the softest of goals with their player rolling Dexter in Goal to score their 8th
Although this was the heaviest defeat the 8’s had ever had, the damage was all done in the 1st half with the Swans playing some good football in the 2nd half. But you could see why Lymington hadn’t been beaten all season and had a goal difference of +70 goals a hard team to play for any team let alone an inexperienced side like the Swans.
