 Under 7’s

Sunday saw a depleted Swans at home to Broadstone. Danny, William and Mitchell were all missing and for the second game in a row, the Young Guns
played with the bare seven. Drew captained the side for the day and Callum slotted back into the middle of defence alongside George and Matthew. Bradley again partnered Drew in midfield with Louie up front.
The Swans started the stronger, creating several chances. Drew had a shot well saved by the visitors keeper, while Bradley and Louie both created openings but desperate last ditch defending prevented them from getting their shots away. Midway through the first half persistence from Bradley saw him set up Drew to score the first goal 1-0 Swans.
The second half saw Callum move into midfield and Bradley slot into defence. The opening minutes saw the Young Guns hemmed in their own half as the visitors pressed for an equaliser, Michael having to save a number of shots. Broadstone won several corners and continued to put the Swans defence under pressure.
The Swans were tiring and with no subs to call on it was only a matter of time before Broadstone would make them pay. However a swift counter attack led by Drew and Louie, saw the Swans win a corner, which led to some determined defending from the visitors and more Swans corners. The Swans were now in control with Louie being unlucky with a good shot. The young Guns were not to be denied as Callum took a pass from the right and struck a well hit shot into the far corner for 2-0 Swans. Drew might have had a third, when Callum made a great pass, Drew steadied himself and cracked a shot towards goal which was well saved.
A few minutes later disaster struck, when some slack defending allowed the visitors in, Michael was powerless to prevent a goal which brought a loud cheer from the visiting support. With seconds remaining the visitors won a free kick on the edge of the box, however the shot was blocked by Callum and the danger was cleared. Final Score: Swans 2 Broadstone 1 MOM: Callum

Under 8’s

The 8’s travelled to Burton for the return leg with a weakened squad with Jack Wyeths on holiday and Dexter Storer falling ill early that morning. This meant that Jordan started in goal and new boy Thomas started in defence both new positions for both boys. Both sides started well both applying pressure at each end Jaya and Ryan both kept busy with some good defending. Jamie was hustling the Burton defence with Corey having a couple of shots at goal but to no avail. Burton forced a couple of good saves from Jordan but both teams were finding it hard to put the ball in the back of the net. Zac launched a couple of good throw in’s enabling Corey to have a go at the Burton defence but Burton were holding strong. Thomas picked up a stitch and was substituted just before half time both teams going in at 0-0. In the second half Burton put the Swans on the back foot and after some poor defending conceded a weak goal again failing to close the opposition down. Corey, Zac and Jamie tried to launch an attack back but couldn’t get it past the Burton goal keeper. Both teams were working hard the Swans defending well and getting the ball forward but Burton persisted in pushing forward and scored a good goal from distance giving poor Jordan no chance. Jordan hurt himself in the process and had to be substituted with Thomas coming on in goal for him. Yan did what he had been shown in training and got the ball through to Corey who just put the ball wide. Thomas made a good save and for all the Swans pushing forward through Jamie, Zac and Corey they just couldn’t score. The game finished 2-0 to Burton but the boys played well but they just gave Burton too much time on the ball, on another day with Jack playing they would probably have won.

Under 10’s

The Swans travelled to Heathlands on a sunny Sunday, without regular defenders Ben and Robert. Adam intercepted the ball from kick-off, passing to Mitch whose shot just went wide. The Swans kept pushing towards their goal, Adam floated  a corner across the goal, which was put in the net by a Heathlands defender, 1-0 Swans.
The Swans kept putting Heathlands under pressure for the rest of the half, with Mitch, Ollie and Adam coming close to scoring.
At the start of the second half, with Bradley now in goal for Josh, Heathlands came straight at the Swans putting a good corner across, to be headed in by one of our players, 1-1. Then Heathlands took a shot straight at Bradley who had no chance, the ball went through his legs into goal, 2-1 Heathlands. Swans heads stayed up, lots of battling in midfield by Josh Peaty and Ollie. Swans tried hard with lots of passing, but with Heathlands hanging on for victory, they kept lobbing the ballas high as they could, out of play. Swans pushed forward looking for the  equalizer, Heathlands under pressure. Adam blasted a free kick into the area, that was headed out by Heathlands,Swans got caught out at the back, leaving Bradley with no chance to save their third.
The Swans kept trying to score, throwing everyone forward, Josh Peaty and Mitch came close, Adam took another free kick that was inches away from going in. Full time 3-1 to Heathlands.
The boys played well as a team and were unlucky to come away without a point.
MOM Adam Morley
