Last Sunday saw the curtain come down on a long hard but enjoyable season. Corfe Mullen were the visitors to Somerford school. The young Guns were looking for revenge, Corfe having beaten the boys last summer in the semi of the Bransgore Tourney on pens, 2-0 in a friendly and 2-1 in the last game before Christmas.

The boys were pegged back for most of the first half as Corfe took control. Matthew in goal was the busiest of the two keepers. Rare Swan attacks were snuffed out by the Corfe back line and it was no surprise when Corfe took the lead midway through the half when slack marking led to a free shot on goal which Matthew was powerless to stop. The Swans gradually hauled themselves back into the match with Callum and William producing some crunching tackles, Drew began seeing a lot more of the ball as the Swans searched for an equaliser, shots from both William and Drew were blocked as Corfe reached half-time with their lead intact. Half Time: 0-1

As the second half began the Swans took control as they searched for an equaliser, in complete contrast to the first half. William and Callum went close with the latter’s shot just going narrowly wide. The Young Guns forced a succession of corners but still could produce the required result. Corfe were restricted to breakaways which William and Michael defended wit ease. As the clock ticked away, Drew crossed into the box for Louie to strike home for a well deserved equaliser in the dying minutes.

A great second half display by the boys, if only the first half was the same, the score might have been different. Well done to the
boys not only for this game but the whole season. Final Score: Swans 1 Corfe Mullen 1 - Scorer Louie, MOM Michael Derham
