Under 9’s match report 16th Sept 2007 v New Milton Eagles
Published by alan September 16th, 2007 in Match ReportsAfter some confusion over K.O. time and problems parking the game kicked off at 10.45 with some boys still not arrived.
With Zac Andress going in goal Yan Brown and Mathew Ryan (moving up from the U8’s to help us) in Defence Ryan Hall, Nathan Smith and Jack Wyeth in mid-field and Ryan Coyne up front. Our subs were Kenny Rickard, Charlie McKenzie and Thomas Clarke.
The boys started brightly back in the old Amber shirts due to a colour clash and in only our 2nd attack Jack hit a long shot past the “Eagles” keeper to put the “Swans” 1-0 up. The game was then closely contested with “Swans” creating far more chances a couple of through balls to Ryan C putting him clear but some good defending by the “Eagles” stopped him scoring. Mathew looked good in defence alongside Yan both putting in good tackles and giving them very few chances. Nathan was working hard running all over the pitch on one occasion put Ryan H in and his shot was well saved by the keeper. Our keeper Zac never looked troubled in goal and he was kicking the ball really well. So at Half time “Swans” were a well deserved 1-0 up.
The second half started with Tom In goal Charlie in defence and Kenny up front. And again early on the “Swans” worked well together for Nathan to score his first goal of the season to put the boys 2-0 ahead.
New Milton kept battling and from a poorly defended corner with none of our boys calling to each other they scored to make it 2-1. Then Zac on a brake away just put his shot wide. Charlie was doing very well in defence clearing the ball well either out for a throw or up the pitch. Ryan C now in defence was also tackling and clearing well. On another attack a shot went into the side netting from the “Swans”.
Then against the run of play the “Eagles” broke forward to score an equallizer 2-2. They could have scored again but for some good chasing back by Zac. Kenny was looking sharp up front with some nice footwork and dribbling, so was Jack running with the ball passing defenders and finally getting his second goal after some pressure by the “Swans” Jack scored to make it 3-2. We kept pushing forward but with time running out had to make sure we didn’t make any silly mistakes at the back so played with three at the back and dispite the ref adding 4 or 5 minutes at the end for no obvious reason held on for a well deserved win.
Man of the match was a very difficult choice to make with so many boys playing well and doing whats been asked of them but it was decided Zac Andress was for his hard work and offer to play the first half in goal.
Final Score :- 3-2
Scorers :- Jack Wyeth 2, Nathan Smith 1.
Man of the Match :- Zac Andress.
